Wow. What a year 2020 you have been!
Like most of you, I too have been navigating and processing all the emotions. And there is a lot of emotions happening here! Many times I have been brought to my knee’s asking for God’s guidance during this difficult time. I realized that one thing that I wanted more than anything was relief. I just wanted to feel like it’s all going to be ok. Most of the time I believe that, but then sometimes the thoughts in my brain like to run wild and take me down a dark ally.
Can you really have a peaceful home?
I decided to do a post on creating a peaceful home. I don’t think creating a peaceful home has to be complicated or complex. In fact, I don’t think a peaceful home looks like a family who only laughs and sings around a campfire. For me, a peaceful home comes in waves at my house. We definitely have our moments of fire. But let’s face it, in order to know what peace is and to appreciate it we have to experience the crazy and the chaos!
Here are 4 unexpected tips in creating a peaceful home. By the way- the first tip works even if your kids are yelling at you and your house is mess. Can you say BOUNUS?
Unexpected Tip 1.
Clean your counters with a scented counter top cleaner.
Seriously. Go to Target and buy one of Mrs. Meyer’s countertop cleaners. This is one of those simple pleasures that can be easily overlooked. I look forward to wiping down my countertops when I get to clean with a scent I love. It transports me to a different place. Try it! It will be a game changer. So when the kids start fighting- just get our your Mrs. Meyer countertop cleaner and she will calm YOU right down. 💆♀️
Unexpected Tip 2.
I know you don’t want to hear this. But just hear me out ok. Surface clutter
Tackle all your surface clutter in the space. Did you notice I just said surface clutter. If you have a lot of clutter and not sure where to start- START with just the clutter on the surface areas like tables, chairs, countertops etc. Find a place for the clutter or toss it. Clutter can cause unnecessary stress and make a home to feel heavy and chaotic. I personally think it’s one of the quickest ways to zap energy. SO Remember this does not have to be done all in a day. Plan a time you want to work on it. This might take a little more mental band width, but in the end it is so worth it.
Unexpected Tip 3.
A space for your morning routine or spiritual practice.
Recently I have realized the power of a morning routines. And have found it helpful to have an hour to myself before all the crazy starts. Having a designated space to do your morning routine is really helpful. Whatever your practice is, make sure this space is free of clutter. This is YOUR space where you can reflect, meditate, and receive impressions. Think about how your morning routine and how you want to use this space and make it place that takes care of you. For example if you journal or read make sure your chair is comfy and you have a nice throw blanket near by.
Unexpected Tip 4.
Reminders.
Your home is personal. So make it personal. What reminders do you have on display in your home that causes you to feel that sense of calm or joy. Maybe it’s a quote or a spiritual picture, or maybe it’s just a souvenir from a beloved family trip that gives you all the feels. It really doesn’t matter what it is . But I know one thing. WE all need gentle REMINDERS. So do a little soul digging and display something in your home that cultivates a feeling of calm and peace.
Now, before I say goodbye here is a little side note,
Most of us with families probably feel like any given day our homes do NOT sound or feel very peaceful! lol. Sometimes we might feel like achieving peace in our home is some made up far away dream. But I believe the making of a peaceful peaceful homes comes with all the other hard stuff. It’s made up of all the emotions, all the messes, all the tears, all the heartache, all the worries. It’s also made up of all the joy, all the laughter all the love and all the PEACE. It’s not the story of the perfect family we like to tell ourselves. So just allow yourself to embrace all of it and find the joy in this epic journey we call life. ❤️
